Write an eBook Using Google Documents

Google Documents provide the basic tools that can be found in other paid programs like Microsoft Office. This includes the basic word processor the works like Microsoft Office without the necessary plugins. Google Docs can even be used in creating an eBook. Basically, your Google Docs account has features that offer wide range of uses.

However, you do not need to use those tools in your Google Docs word processor to write an eBook. Basically, all you have to do is to write up the words on the document, make necessary formatting, and insert pictures and tables. Google Docs can provide you with all the necessary tools that you need to create an eBook that is engaging and interesting to read.

The first step that you need to do is to log into your Gmail account, if you don’t have one you’re going to sign up an account. Having a Google account is essential as this is the only way that you can access Google Docs and its features that you need in creating an eBook. Once you’re logged in, click the link that pertains to documents and you will be automatically directed to Google Docs. Here, you can start to create a new file and begin writing your document.

You have to options in writing your eBook: Presentation format or Document format. Your choice will depend upon the layout of the EBook that you want to create. For beginners, writing in document format is recommended as it has all the tools that you need in creating a presentable eBook.

After creating a new document in Google Docs, you will observe that the window on your screen has the layout of OpenOffice Writer or Microsoft Word. Just start typing the words for your content and perform formatting once you are done to write. You can even insert images and graphics if you prefer to have them in your contents. Just remember to perform save from time to time, just like what you do in other Office programs. Although Google Docs will auto-save your documents, it is still necessary to save regularly.

After you’re done writing and making necessary correction on your eBook, you can have it proofed and edited by your editor. Just simply go to Share menu and provide your editor an access to your Google Docs account to review your work. Your editor can access your account anywhere he/she is as long as there is an internet connection. You don’t even need to send your eBook to your editor through email as he can access your work directly from your account. Once your eBook is edited or proofed, you can go to the File menu and click the Download as PDF button. Google Docs can convert your EBook to PDF without using any PDF editor or editing software.
